Workman I
Salary: Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 3 (HK$15,690 per month) to Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 13 [Note (1)] (HK$19,175 per month)
Entry Requirements:
Candidates, both male and female, should -
(a) be able to communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English, read simple Chinese and simple English, write simple Chinese or English [Note (2)] ;
(b) have 3 years of relevant experience in general labour work involving sewage treatment facilities; and
(c) have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST) [Note (3)].
Note:
(1) The information on the maximum pay point is for reference only and may be subject to changes.
(2) Candidates will be required to pass an interview which includes a test on simple Chinese and English.
(3) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their knowledge of the Basic Law and the National Security Law. A pass result in the BLNST is an entry requirement for all civil service jobs. Only those candidates who have passed the BLNST will be considered for appointment. For candidates who have not taken the BLNST or have not attained a pass result in the BLNST at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the relevant BLNST during the recruitment process.
(4) Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.
Duties:
A Workman I is mainly deployed to sewage treatment work to –
(a) assist in carrying out maintenance and operational duties;
(b) perform minor repair duties;
(c) perform sampling and general cleaning duties; and
(d) carry out all manual labour duties.
Note:
May be required to -
(i) work outdoors, anywhere in the territory;
(ii) work irregular hours, overtime or to perform shift duties;
(iii) work in obnoxious environment; and
(iv) drive government vehicles.
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

If candidates submit the old version form (G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)), they will be required to fill in the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) afresh and submit it within seven days upon request. If candidates fail to submit the new G.F. 340 (Rev. 7/2023) within the stipulated deadline, their applications will not be processed further.
