To help newly set up private sewage treatment plants to expedite the initial start up of the sewage treatment process.

Since newly set-up private sewage treatment plants may not have sufficient microorganisms to treat the sewage at the outset, activated sludge is required to be collected from Government sewage treatment plants for seeding aiming at speeding up the sewage treatment process.

Treatment of domestic liquid wastes for contractors.

To treat domestic liquid wastes that are delivered to Government sewage treatment plants by private contractors.

Private contractors collect domestic liquid wastes from septic tanks and aqua privies at various locations of Hong Kong and deliver them to Government sewage treatment plants where the wastes are co-disposed of together with other sewage.

Supply of sewage and sludge samples to the Tertiary Institutions.

To provide samples for academic studies and research.

Sewage and sludge samples are often required for study and research use by Tertiary Institutions. The samples required for these purposes can be collected from Government sewage treatment plants.
