Project Extent

“Lai Chi Kok Drainage Tunnel” is located at Northwest Kowloon. The 3.7km tunnel consisted of a 2.5km long “branch tunnel” constructed at the mid-level along Ching Cheung Road and a 1.2km long “main tunnel” underlying Lai Chi Kok urban area. A stilling basin is located in between the two tunnels and the outfall is located at Stonecutters Island.

Project Duration: Project commenced in November 2008 and commissioned in October 2012
Construcion Cost: About HK $ 1.7 Billion
Tunnel Internal Diameter: 4.9m
Tunnel Boring Machine: Dae Janggeum
Design Flow: 102m3/ second (approximate equal to filling up a standard swimming pool in 10 seconds)
Flood Prevention Standard: to handle rainstorm of 50-year return at Northwest Kowloon area
Protected Area: Lai Chi Kok, Sham Shui Po, and Cheung Sha Wan
