DSD Open Day 2014 concluded successfully (Date: 15/1/2014)

The Drainage Services Department (DSD) Open Day 2014, which was held on 11&12 January 2014 at Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works (STSTW), concluded successfully. The two-day event attracted a total of about 12,000 visitors and the public response was overwhelming. The 10,000th visitor was presented with a souvenir by the Deputy Director of Drainage Services, Mr. TSUI Wai.

While the main theme of the Open Day was to commemorate DSD’s 25th anniversary, it also marked by four sub-themes which included: "Relocation of Sewage Treatment Works to caverns", "Showcasing the Major Sewerage and Drainage projects", "Green Operation and Maintenance Practices" and "Engagement with the community".  Through thematic visits, panels and models display, the public could gain better understanding of DSD's efforts in flood prevention as well as sewage collection and treatment.  Exhibition booths of various iconic projects included “Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2A”, “Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme”, “Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Kai Tak River” and “Relocation of Shatin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns” were also on display at the venue.

As a major highlight of the event, 25 trade partners, green groups, tertiary education and professional institutions had set up exhibition booths to provide the latest information of their products and services to the public.  To encourage participation, two competitions, namely “The Best Thematic Booth” and “The Favorite Booth” were held during the Open Day . Visitors could show their support by casting votes.  Deputy Director of Drainage Services, Mr. TSUI Wai” presented the prizes to BUDA Surveying Limited with the highest number of votes for the two competitions.

To commemorate the DSD’s 25th anniversary, schools participated in the “DSD’s 25 Years of Excellent Service to Hong Kong - Logo and Slogan Contest for Primary Schools” and “ Wall Painting Contest for Secondary Schools ”.  All entries were of high standard, indicating the participants had put much effort in composing the artworks. After going through the rigorous judging process, the judging panel finally selected the winners. Deputy Director of Drainage Services, Mr TSUI Wai and Assistant Directors, presented the prizes to the winning students and the schools with good performance.

Apart from the exhibitions, a family planting corner was also set up in the venue to promote the importance of community greening in a more enjoyable and relax way. To create a joyful atmosphere for the event, sessions of entertaining performances including band show, magic show, modern dance, hip hop & jazz, Freestyle Football Performance, rope skipping performance and Chinese instrumental ensemble, were conducted at the main stage throughout the Open Day.
