Rural works

To achieve the flood protection standards and to prevent major flooding in the rural areas of the New Territories, large-scale civil engineering works are required. A comprehensive programme on long-term structural measures is already in hand to implement improvements to the primary drainage network. The works, estimated to cost HK$ 11 billion, include construction of 5 km of drainage tunnel, widening and training of 110 km of major rivers, laying of 18 km of stormwater drains and the implementation of village flood protection schemes for low-lying flood prone villages.
