IF AT RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY FROM FLOODING YOU SHOULD IMMEDIATELY CALL 999 FOR ASSISTANCE

Please contact your District Office for the opening schedule of flood shelters/community centers in your area.

Advisory Notes for Rural Flooding

Things You SHOULD DO During Flooding

*IF AT RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY FROM FLOODING YOU SHOULD IMMEDIATELY CALL 999 FOR ASSISTANCE

 Stay Away from Watercourses  

* Properly place your valuable things in safe places
* Keep yourself informed of the weather forecast
* People and pets move to risk-free areas

* Take care of the elderly and give your helping hands to your neighbours
* Move your vehicle to a place that is not affected by flooding
* Bring your mobile phone, torch and radio along with you when leaving
* Switch off all the gas powers and electrical switches before leaving
Things You SHOULD NOT DO During Flooding
* Don't leave your child alone
* Don't stay near rivers or channels
* Don't let children play at stream courses
* Don't touch any wet switches

Flood Warning System

* What is Flood Warning System ?

This system aims at alerting villagers before the river overflows, so that they can have enough time to leave or take precautionary measures.

Flood Warning System

Local flood warning systems are installed at flood prone villages to alert villagers when the water level at the river reaches a predetermined level. The warnings are disseminated through flood sirens or through automatic telephone calls to the village representatives.

* Where are these systems installed ?

The flood prone areas or villages located near stream courses installed with
installing these devices. It helps alert villagers before river overflows.

* Is this system reliable ?

DSD would regular inspect the system to ensure all the facilities will function properly.

The system may be damaged in some circumstances and become not reliable. Villagers should keep alert and help each other if necessary.

* How to protect this system ?

To avoid damage and interference with the system.

If the system does not function properly, please advise DSD immediately.
