The Vision of the Department is to provide world-class wastewater and stormwater drainage services to enable the sustainable development of Hong Kong.

Since establishment on 1 September 1989, we have made good progress at both the drainage and sewerage improvement fronts.  The completion of Yuen Long Bypass Floodway, Shenzhen River Regulation Project, and the tertiary sewage treatment works in Ngong Ping with the pilot scheme of reclaimed water are some examples of our achievements in recent years. In providing these drainage and sewerage infrastructures, we have also taken into consideration ecology needs, compatibility with the local environment and public interests.  In the next few years, we will continue to implement other large-scale projects which include the three stormwater drainage tunnels respectively in Hong Kong West, Tsuen Wan and Lai Chi Kok to raise the flood protection level and alleviate the flood risk in the areas concerned; and the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2A to further improve the water quality of Victoria Harbour.

Most of our drainage improvement and maintenance works are carried out in public areas.  While we are committed to minimize disturbance to the public, inevitably our works would bring some inconvenience to road users and the locals.  We would like to take this opportunity to apologize to parties affected by our works.  We are confident that with your support, understanding and tolerance, we will be able to bring continuous improvements to our wastewater and stormwater drainage services.   

Our homepage aims at providing an effective platform so that the public could have a better understanding about the Drainage Services Department.  Apart from introducing our organization and work, this homepage also contains information of public interest, such as flooding black spots, flood protection standards, details of major sewage treatment plant, arrangement for visiting sewage treatment plants, and sewage treatment technologies etc.  There is also information about forthcoming tenders for works contracts and consultancy assignments, which will be of particular interest to the construction industry.
