| The area around Wing Lok Street in Sheung Wan is a low-lying area. During high tide, sea level is close to the ground level and the underground stormwater drains are filled with seawater. Coupled with rainstorm event, it is much more difficult to discharge the stormwater to the sea. As a result, the area is more susceptible to flooding during the coincidence of high tide and rainstorm. To solve the flooding problem in Sheung Wan, the Drainage Services Department (DSD) have constructed stormwater intercepting drains and pumping station to pump stormwater of the low-lying area to the sea. With the progressive completion of the works, flooding problem in the low-lying area in Sheung Wan was alleviated before the wet season of 2009 and 2010. |
